{Tutorial} Faux Burnt Edges

Faux Burnt Edges  By Lucy Chesna

Learning new techniques is one of my favorite things to do in scrapbooking and I’ll try anything once, even if I feel a little apprehensive about it. There is a certain one that I fell in love with and use it a good amount on my layouts and cards and it’s creating a burned edge look. I’ll show you how easy it can be done.
My Mom and Her Parents by Lucy Chesna Supplies Patterned Paper: Basic Grey; Die Cuts: Basic Grey;Stickers: Basic Grey; Rhinestones: Hero Arts; Ink: Ranger; Punches: EK Success; Tool: Ranger
Supplies:
Pattern paper
Distress tool
Ink blending tool and foams
Distress Inks (Tea Dye, Walnut Stain and Black Soot)

Step One: Tear the paper around all four edges to get a textured look
Step Two: Take your distress tool and distress the edges until you achieve the texture you want. I use a back and forth motion so the paper won’t curl or tear too much.

Note: If you don’t have a tool for distressing then you can use a nail file, serrated knife, foot sanding tool or your finger nail.
Step Three: Start with your lightest color (Tea Dye) and rub from the edge to about an inch or two into the page. Don’t forget to make swirling motions so the ink is blending on the edges.
Step Four: Next take your distress ink (Walnut Stain) and repeat step three. Really work at the edges and creases of the paper
Step Five: Now take the Black Soot and do just the very edge. This will give you a burned effect on the paper.
Step Six: This is how it looks distressed and with the layers of ink on it.

Step Seven: You can now create your layout.

Of course, this isn’t the only color combo you can use. You can mix the colors as long as the first two colors are from the same family and Black Soot is your third ink. It’s a lot of fun and very addicting.
